Tuscany 7 Day Itinerary

Tuscany 7 Day Itinerary
A week for cities and countryside without changing hotels nightly: three Florence nights then four in Siena or a suitable nearby base. Use trains first, then confirmed transport for villages and countryside.
In this guide
Seven-day overview
Assumes seven full days and seven nights for consistent budgeting. A San Gimignano stop on transfer day requires a car or driver explicitly accommodating luggage; a Florence return tour is not automatically a hotel transfer. Without a car, transfer directly to Siena and arrange the village separately after checking connections. Day seven is flexible if departing.

Daily itinerary
Day 1 · Unhurried Florence
Morning · 2–3 hours
Explore the centre and cathedral exterior, then nearby squares. Choose only one timed interior if desired; dome and museum admission are not assumed.
Afternoon · 2–3 hours
Lunch and a 45–60-minute break, followed by Piazza della Signoria, Arno and Ponte Vecchio. Passing the Uffizi is not a museum visit.
Evening · 1–2 hours
A short Oltrarno walk or Piazzale Michelangelo if energy and weather permit. Count uphill access and return; a particular sunset time is not guaranteed.
Transport & break
Walk in manageable sections with café seating. Timings are independent planning estimates, not opening hours. Do not drive between every central sight.
Family alternative & booking
Choose squares, river and a longer break instead of climbing or a long museum. A photoshoot is optional and separately booked.
Booking & availability
Optional private Florence photoshoot, not admission to landmarks.
Day 2 · Unhurried Pisa
Morning · 3–4 hours
Train to Pisa and reach Piazza dei Miracoli. Begin with photos and exteriors; climb only with explicit tower admission and suitable participants.
Booking & availability
Check an option explicitly including the tower climb and age rules; not every option includes climbing.
Afternoon · 2–3 hours
Lunch and a break, then cathedral or baptistery around your ticket, or an Arno walk. Full-complex admission is not assumed.
Evening · 1–2 hours
Return to Florence for dinner and rest. Lucca has its own day.
Transport & break
Florence–Pisa about 1–1.5 hours for planning, plus travel to the square. Check works and returns; this is not a guaranteed timetable.
Family alternative & booking
Square photos, lunch and early return instead of climbing. Check tower age, accompaniment and ticket rules.
Day 3 · Lucca & its walls
Morning · 2–3 hours
Travel to Lucca and walk part of the walls before the centre. Completing the whole circuit is unnecessary.
Afternoon · 2–3 hours
Lunch and a break, Via Fillungo and Piazza Anfiteatro. Choose at most one optional interior.
Booking & availability
Local Lucca walking tour. Check cathedral admission/fees; Florence transport is separate.
Evening · 1–2 hours
Return to Florence and prepare luggage for tomorrow, with dinner nearby.
Transport & break
Allow roughly 1.5–2 hours each way by rail plus station walking. Check direct/change arrangements for your date.
Family alternative & booking
A short wall section and centre with breaks instead of a tower. Lucca’s local walk does not include Florence transfers.
Day 4 · San Gimignano to Siena
Morning · 3–4 hours
Check out and travel by arranged car/driver to San Gimignano. Agree luggage handling and keep valuables out of view.
Afternoon · 2–3 hours
Squares, streets, lunch and a break; skip a tower if time is tight.
Booking & availability
This is a Florence return day trip combining Siena and San Gimignano, not a one-way hotel transfer. Confirm luggage and return arrangements.
Evening · 1–2 hours
Transfer to Siena, check in and have dinner nearby. Its main sights belong to tomorrow.
Transport & break
Allow roughly 1–1.5 hours Florence–village and around an hour towards Siena, depending on roads, plus parking/walking. Check live.
Family alternative & booking
On public transport or with tired children transfer directly to Siena. Do not use a Florence return trip as one-way hotel transport without agreement.
Day 5 · A full Siena day
Morning · 2–3 hours
Campo and central streets, or a local walk around its meeting time.
Afternoon · 2–3 hours
Lunch and a break, then cathedral with the right ticket. Distinguish entry from complex passes and check Sunday/holiday tour terms.
Booking & availability
Local Siena walking tour, not automatic Florence transport or full cathedral-complex admission.
Evening · 1–2 hours
A café or short walk near your base, then rest before countryside.
Transport & break
Spread walking with seating and water, without another intercity journey. Check the route for strollers and mobility needs.
Family alternative & booking
Square and one interior are enough; omit stairs or extra museums. Product 8421 does not imply the whole cathedral complex.
Day 6 · Val d’Orcia
Morning · 3–4 hours
With a car, driver or confirmed tour, visit Pienza’s centre and public views. Use permitted parking and check access.
Booking & availability
Optional Piccolomini Palace visit on the Pienza day, not transport or a whole-valley tour.
Afternoon · 2–3 hours
Lunch and a break, then San Quirico or Bagno Vignoni, not every town. The central historic pool is for viewing, not bathing.
Evening · 1–2 hours
Return to Siena and hand over any rental as agreed, then rest. For same-day departure, cut a stop and allow airport travel.
Transport & break
Allow roughly 1–1.5 hours each way from Siena towards Pienza as planning, plus village travel. The whole valley has no single journey time.
Family alternative & booking
Without confirmed transport extend Siena with a museum or rest around opening instead of unverified connections. A Siena walk is not a valley booking.
Day 7 · Montalcino or a flexible day
Morning · 2–3 hours
With a full day and confirmed transport, choose Montalcino centre and fortress surroundings. For departures use the time for luggage and travel instead.
Booking & availability
The Excel activity names Val d’Orcia and Sant’Antimo. Confirm Montalcino inclusion and departure before payment.
Afternoon · 2–3 hours
Lunch and rest. Sant’Antimo is an optional alternative requiring travel, not a compulsory extra above every sight.
Evening · 1–2 hours
Return to Siena and rest; avoid countryside return immediately before a flight.
Transport & break
Roughly an hour each way from Siena towards Montalcino before parking, plus travel for the abbey. Verify roads and arrangements.
Family alternative & booking
A light Siena day or confirmed nearby activity instead. Saturnia or ballooning replaces the day with separate location, weather and transport planning.
Essential bookings
Arrange both bases, day-four luggage/transfer and rural transport, then tower, cathedral and optional experiences. Ensure a San Gimignano trip does not return to a base you are leaving. Linked guides contain supplied partner booking details. Activity calendars appear below their relevant paragraphs.
Where to stay
Three nights around Florence SMN/centre then four in Siena or nearby according to your vehicle. Compare luggage access, parking and central connections. Rural stays suit confirmed transport and acceptance of fewer nearby services. For six nights adjust budget and departure timing. One base is possible but requires a revised rural plan.
Hotels & accommodation in Tuscany
Choose dates, rooms and children’s ages, then compare location, total and cancellation. This TripMoo Trip.com link opens accommodation search, not a confirmed hotel booking or fixed price.
Airports & transport
Check Florence/Pisa airport links to your accommodation for arrival dates. Use trains and walking for the first three days. If hiring for the southern leg, confirm collection, return, charges, licence and provider conditions. Rural transport must explicitly confirm stops and return. Siena walk 8421 is not intercity transport. Add airport travel, luggage and check-in for departure.
Estimated budget
Editorial euro estimates per adult sharing a double, seven days and seven nights, dated 3 November 2026; not live quotes. Includes accommodation share, food, city travel, limited entries and a provisional shared car/rural transport allowance. Excludes international flights, shopping, costly optional activities and refundable deposits. Private drivers need separate quotes; add differences from the allowance.

Family & travel tips
Wear suitable shoes, bring an evening layer and keep a rain alternative. Choose one main interior daily and avoid adjacent timed bookings. For driving check permitted parking/ZTL and child seats. Use a non-drinking driver after alcohol tasting. Verify opening and availability for your date.
Adapt the itinerary for families
A light Siena day or confirmed nearby activity instead. Saturnia or ballooning replaces the day with separate location, weather and transport planning.
Frequently asked questions
Does it include flight days?
It assumes seven full days. Reduce day one or reserve day seven for departure if flights occur within them.
Can I transfer with luggage via San Gimignano?
Only with explicit car/driver and luggage arrangements. On public transport transfer directly to Siena and plan the village separately.
Do I need a car all week?
Not for the first days. Countryside needs a car or confirmed transport; otherwise use city alternatives.
Can I add Saturnia or a balloon?
Replace the flexible or a full day around location, time and availability rather than adding it to the entire route.
Do I cover every valley town?
No. Choose two stops on day six and one town on day seven only if it is a full day.
Is this one package?
No. Stays, transport and entries have separate bookings and conditions.
